Ho Ho Ho Last Sourcing For The Year
Valentine's Day date ideas, doctors who own wineries, moving with pets, cooking for 1, headaches, and more.
Hi all! Sourcing for my last articles of the year (so ready to wrap it up and take a nice holiday break) and wanted to get this bad boy out.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
AARP (ASAP)
For the GenX men’s newsletter, doing a story on “5 Valentine’s Day Date Ideas You Won’t Hate.” Looking to connect with:
Relationship experts to talk about date ideas that are unusual, affordable, doable and not boring and cliche.
Guys in the GenX demo who have pulled off some cool dates to talk about their experiences.
MEDSCAPE
I’m working on a feature on doctors who have started their own wineries. We would like to hear from 3 or 4 of them about their personal stories. What do they love about wine? What inspired them to actually take on the huge project of owning a winery? What is the lifestyle like? How does it complement or relate to their medical careers? As a way to relax, connect with nature, be creative etc? Are they tuned into the science of wine-making? Is there a medical connection with the health benefits of wine?
BROOKDALE’S BLOG (Leading senior housing company in NA with 700+ locations):

Headaches 101 – the most common types, how to treat them, and when to worry: Looking for MDs
At-Home Science Experiments to Do With Your Grandkids: (No products) but looking for some parenting, DIY experts and scientists to weigh in on this and provide some fun ideas

Also, if you haven’t seen this week’s Top Tier Consulting Newsletter, make sure to check it out: The Right And Wrong Ways to Handle Your Clients' Titles When Submitting Them As Sources. Jill & I love delivering weekly articles like this that deep dive into media topics to help our readers keep their pitching game at a top-tier level. Here’s a quick teaser of what we sent out today:
You have the perfect source to pitch a writer for a story they are working on. But before you send an email out about your client, it’s important that you handle their title correctly. When it comes to submitting a client as a source, there are many things to think about:
Is your client attached to a brand that needs to be included in the story?
Does your client have a bunch of titles that you’re hoping will be included?
Is there one title in particular that MUST be in the story in order for you to make your client happy?
Does your source maybe not have the right title at the moment but has an amazing history that makes them a viable candidate for the story?
As writers, we receive so many pitches with experts to talk about story subjects we are working on — but many times, publicists overlook the importance of properly handling a potential source’s title when reaching out to us. This may sound like a no-brainer and you may think you’re doing it right (and you very well could be!) but there are some important things to know about how to handle this that will improve your chances of inclusion in a story AND walking away with a clip that makes your client happy.
That’s it for now. Not sure I’ll do another newsletter this year so wanted to take a moment to wish you all a VERY HAPPY HOLIDAYS and a WONDERFUL NEW YEAR! Thanks for being a part of my newsletter and always sending me such great sources. Ox to you all.
